The Kent Bonsai Club was founded in the summer of 1985 to promote interest in and appreciation of bonsai in the Kent area, following a simple advertisement in the local paper of Whitstable.
Ten members attended the first meeting, which was held at the founder's home on the 14th January 1986.

In the summer of 1986 the members arranged to hold an Open Day in the garden of the founder's home. Posters were made and displayed in the town.
This event occurred in September and amazingly over a hundred members of the public came to admire the members' trees.
In 1989 membership had grown considerably.

With an average of twenty members attending each meeting, the club has moved to St Stephens Church Hall, Hales Drive, Canterbury Kent. Where meetings are now held every First Tuesday of the month (excluding January).
Over the next ten years the club continued to thrive. Workshops were held and guest speakers invited to impart their knowledge of the art of Bonsai.
Wth an average attendance at meetings of thirty-five, members coming from a wide area of Kent. Over the years the level of experience of members has grown.

Each year the club now runs three small shows held in halls in the Kent area.

The main aim of the Kent Bonsai Club is to promote interest in this fascinating art and inspire both beginner and advanced growers of Bonsai in the atmosphere of a friendly club.
